4 steps on how to achieve your new year’s resolutions + goodbye willowy thoughts

Hey y’all! Welcome back to beautiful days. I hope you’re having a great week! My posts are now going to go out on Fridays! So, look out for new posts every Friday at 8 am Eastern Time.


1. write your goals down

This is a super important step to achieving your goals. If you write them down you can remember them. I like to take a notebook and write everything that I need on a daily basis in it, like morning + evening routines, workouts, to do lists, etc. Another thing I would suggest while writing your goals down is to make your page of goals aesthetic. This way, you will be happy and pleased whenever you look at your resolutions.

If you don’t have a journal, or prefer the digital route, I’d recommend using Canva, so you can still make you list colorful. Canva has thousands of amazing templates, or you can even make your own with graphics!

A thing I like to do while writing them down is to write my how, but I’ll get more in depth during the next step.

2. remember your how

What is a how? It’s a lot of things lol. But in this case, it’s three things / strategies / methods to make your resolutions come true. For example, if your resolution was to run 3 x a week, your how’s could be start at half a mile and go farther every month, ask a friend to run with you, and reward yourself with some chocolate or Netflix every week you hit your goal.

With the how system, you’re not only motivated to reach your goal, but you have extra solutions to get to it.

3. make a vision board

Vision boards are so fun to make! Hannah @ Diary of a Daydreamer has a really great post explaining how to make one.

Put all of your resolutions, (in picture form) onto a collage and put it as your Laptop wallpaper. If you don’t use a computer put it as your iPad or iPhone wallpaper. And, if you’re feeling extra crafty, you can print all the pictures out, glue them together, and put them somewhere you look a lot. Plus it’s bonus room decor, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I think having a visual reminder of your goals + resolutions is really important, because your vision board, in a way I like to think about it, is really your dream or ideal self. Somebody who we really want to be.

4. motivation

This step is a little different than our other steps. Everybody has bad days. Days with drama, days where something really, really bad happens, or just days where you just really want to stay in bed.

On these days, we still need to find the positives and stay motivated. Lots of times, successful people are asked “how did you get everything done,” or “how were you productive all the time?” But I think the real answer that we need is to be motivated on our off days. We need to get out of bed, and do the things we need to be done even when we don’t feel like it. I’m not saying to push yourself and burn ourself out, rest days are important, but resting everyday isn’t important.
